Essential apps!

You can use many apps for food and grocery delivery. We recommend these:

  • Bolt Food – Same company behind Bolt taxi rides. It’s worth getting their premium subscription because you get better prices on taxi rides and you can use your taxi credits toward food orders – win-win!

  • Wolt – Great for quick food delivery with a slightly different user experience than Bolt Food. Their premium plan also gives discounts on food and delivery fees.

You can also use several other handy local apps that help with transport, tickets, city info, and more:

  • Bolt / Uber – for taxi rides.
  • Ubian – A very practical transport-oriented app where you can check public transport timetables (bus, tram, train), buy virtual tickets, top up your transport card, and even track vehicle departures. It simplifies planning and paying for travel across Slovak cities including Košice.

  • Antik SmartWay – An all-in-one mobility app by ANTIK that brings together shared bikes, e-bikes, e-motocycles, e-scooters and other city transport devices. You can also buy public transport tickets directly in the app, manage credit, and ride shared vehicles all from one place.

  • Naše Košice – A local city app that gives you an overview of what’s happening in Košice, including current news, events, public transport info, parking, shared services access, sports event details, and tips for leisure activities and trips. It’s like a one-stop hub for navigating life in the city. You can also buy public transportation tickets here.

Phone billable services

📱 Major Operators & Plan Types

  • Slovakia has several mobile operators offering both prepaid (no monthly bill) and postpaid/phone plan (monthly contract) plans. The biggest network providers are TelekomOrangeO2, and 4ka, plus various smaller or virtual operators.

  • Prepaid plans are great if you want flexibility without contracts — you top up credit and buy data or minutes as needed. SIM cards typically start from around ~5 € with some included credit/data, and bigger bundles cost more.

  • Postpaid/ phone plans are billed monthly and often include larger data allowances, unlimited calls/SMS, and extras like roaming in the EU. Prices for mid-range plans with decent data usually start from around 10–18 € per month depending on the operator and data amount.

📊 Typical Mobile Plan Features

  • Affordable data & calls: Many plans include a fair amount of data, unlimited calls and texts within Slovakia and EU roaming under EU regulations.

  • 5G available: All major operators are expanding 5G coverage in Slovak cities.

  • Smaller operators: Lower-cost options (like 4ka and other MVNOs) can be cheaper but might have slightly less extensive coverage than the big networks, especially out of the city.

🎓 ISIC Phone plan (paušál)  – Student Package

  • The ISIC paušál is a mobile plan specifically for students with a valid ISIC/ITIC/EURO<26 card
  • With ISIC deals, you can get special pricing and benefits — for example, plans with generous data (e.g., 100 GB), unlimited calls & SMS, and extra perks like the ability to trade unused data or discounts on devices.
  • Some operators require an annual proof of study (ISIC or school confirmation) to keep student pricing.
  • More information about this can be found here:

💡 Tips Before Choosing

  • Decide how much data vs calls/SMS you need — students often value data more.

  • If you mainly use your phone in cities like Košice, coverage differences are less noticeable. In rural areas, bigger networks like Telekom and Orange usually perform better.

  • Compare prepaid vs phone plan pricing based on your budget and whether you want contract benefits (like cheaper roaming or device bundles).
